The renovated and extended municipal market of Bonoua was officially delivered to the populations, during a ceremony placed under the patronage of the President of the Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural Council (CESEC), Dr Aka Aouélé, and chaired by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Crafts, represented by his Chief of Staff, Raymond Laurent Assoua.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister, the Director of Cabinet welcomed the commissioning of this modern infrastructure, which will contribute to strengthening the commercial dynamism of Bonoua, improving the working conditions of traders and the development of the local economy.

He recalled that markets constitute essential infrastructure for economic development, job creation and social cohesion. He also insisted on the need to have commercial equipment that meets safety, hygiene and modernity requirements.

Built in 1994 under the mandate of the first mayor of Bonoua, the late Jean-Baptiste Amethié, the municipal market was renovated and extended according to the BOT model, in order to respond to the changing needs of traders and populations.

The structure includes 943 stalls, several hundred stores, cold rooms, spaces dedicated to butchery, an infirmary, warehouses as well as a hangar intended for the sale of poultry.

On behalf of the Minister, the Director of Cabinet congratulated the mayor of Bonoua, the municipal council and all the partners who contributed to the creation of this infrastructure. He also urged traders to ensure its preservation and make it an exemplary framework for commerce.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Crafts to continue its support for traders through the Trader’s Card and the Mutual Association of Traders of Côte d’Ivoire (MUCCI).

With this renovated and modernized market, Bonoua now has a benchmark commercial infrastructure, designed to sustainably support its economic development and improve the conditions for carrying out commercial activities.
